I’m so torn about tuning in to Agent Carter.
On one hand its a female lead show, spy action, Marvel universe, and hello, it’s Peggy Carter. But at the same time, I feel like its going to be catered for white women in regards to being a strong, female lead.
And yeah, I know Peggy and Hayley are white women so it’s their narrative, and I get that no character will be universally liked or relatable, but what I mean is it’s going to play to what’re ideal choices/actions for a white women but not necessarily relatable/appealing/comfortable ones for those who aren’t white women or white; that her actions will fit her/a white person’s perspective/needs but not good for their overall character or situation or for the other characters in the narrative [who aren’t the bad guys], let alone especially if the show even gets any PoC characters.
And that any problematic stuff that happens with the show will be able to be glossed over because hey, it’s a show with a strong, independent, female lead character who fights! Especially given MCU’s reputation with non-white characters.
(I hope all of this made sense.)

mod m here. I basically have the same reservations. Except for the fact that 2 MoC from Captain America are missing from Agent Carter so in fact Agent Carter has been intentionally whitewashed.

Gabe Jones and Jim Morita
The most horrible part is Peggy Carter and Jones were in a canon interracial relationship in the comics back in the ‘60’s.

Its true that there are going to be lots of allowances made for it (American Horror Story is a good example of fandom excusing many of its problematic flaws just because strong white women are always its focus).
I’m not going to be tuning into Agent Carter until I see PoC in substantive roles. Furthermore the chances are that fandom will not look too closely at its problems does worry me so if any of our followers watch don’t just watch as a guilty pleasure call out its problems and talk about it. Remember too that white feminism has a tendency to be exclusive and not inclusive (are there going to be any LGBTAIP+ characters? how about disabled characters?). And like honestly isn’t the MCU already extremely white?
